The Party Was a Hit!
Thank you to all of you that came out on October 22nd to celebrate our one year anniversary. We kicked off the event with a ribbon cutting with the Chamber of Commerce. We had a wine tasting and food catered by Zacatecas restaurant and live music from Three Jacks and a Jill. Below are some pictures from the event. Thank you for your support, we look forward to another successful year with you in 2010!

Ron Schauland
Ron Schauland wasn't turned off by Underground Functional Fitness's motto of "Invitation Only". In fact, it just motivated him even more. He has been training with Coach Brown for over a year and he says he is stronger than ever - both physically and mentally. "I am now at the point where I look forward to working out. I know that if I give it my best, my whole outlook on life improves," says Ron.
Ron has lost twenty pounds, gained muscle mass, and no longer has back pain. "My job as a nurse anesthetist is challenging mentally but not very physical in nature. By training regularly at Underground, my body is in better shape now that my back pain has disappeared. I am able to do the things I enjoy like hunting, playing racquetball, and playing with my grandchildren - all things I couldn't do before without tiring."
Ron and his wife, Jeanne have both been training at Underground Functional Fitness and together they have adapted healthier lifestyles. "The training at UFF has given me a positive attitude. My wife and I both have enjoyed the benefits of the great setup and trainers at UFF. It's been truly life-changing!"

Now Enlisting! Our Kids Boot Camp follows the same programming and philosophies as everything else we do at UFF. Any parent who wants their child to grow up healthy, strong, and have a lifelong love for fitness should enlist their kids in boot camp.
Ages 5 and up are welcome.All ages receive the
same training -- the only difference may be the weight or intensity.Our goal at Underground Functional Fitness is
to educate children and teens about functional fitness and prepare them for a
journey of wellness.Not only will they
develop into fit individuals, they will learn to take responsibility for their
health and enjoy freedom of movement.

"The Man in the Arena"
I am writing this from one of my favorite places on earth, where I am staying with my dear friend and her family - Nashville, Tennessee. They are all special to me, and this is a special place to me as much of my growth and God's grace have mingled together in this city.
Yesterday, I was heading out the door to share part of my story in a "new"setting and I was a bit nervous (ok, alot nervous, but it is good to be so sometimes. It keeps me humble.) My friends' 13 year old son, Andrew, was teasing me.
"Don't let the critics get you down!" he mused, as I was getting in to the car to leave.
"Thanks, alot, Andrew, for the encouragement" I teased back, but feeling the lump in my throat grow exponentially.
Then his mother asked him to recite to me a part of a speech that he had memorized months earlier. I thought it may encourage some of my readers. It did me. It is a quote from Theodore Roosevelt, given in a speech in 1910, in Paris.
"It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat."
Dear reader, do you find yourself feeling as if you have stepped in to an arena, or are being called to do so? Maybe it's the arena of trial and suffering that you are walking valiantly in, trusting God verses cowering in fear. Maybe you are soon to be entering an arena that the Lord has called you to step in to - a job, a ministry, a calling, an opportunity to share your story.
The arena can be a vulnerable place, a dirty place where our faces may feel as if they are marred with dust and sweat and tears, an intense place. It is here, often in this place where our character grows, our integrity is defined, our faith is strengthened and the Lord seen clearer.

Guilt-Free Holiday Recipes!
Sugar free Pumpkin Pie
1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust of choice
1 (15 oz) can pumpkin
3/4c splenda
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ginger
1/4 tsp cloves
1/8 tsp nutmeg
1 (12oz) can evaporated milk
Heat oven 425 degrees. Combine ingredients and pour into crust. Bake 15 minutes at 425. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake 45 minutes. Cool and top with Light Cool Whip if desired.
Pumpkin Fluff Dip
15 oz can pumpkin
1 box sugar free vanilla instant pudding
1 tsp pumpkin pie spice (or to taste)
1/2 tsp vanilla
8 oz container light cool whip
Mix pudding mix, pumpkin, spice and vanilla. Fold in Light Cool Whip. Chill. Use as a dip for graham crackers,fruit etc. (Be
creative!)
