There are as many programs as there are athletes at Underground Functional Fitness. While many athletes have similar developmental and functional sports needs, no two programs will be identical. Athletes in developmental programs are encouraged to have friendly competition that maximizes workout efficiency and takes advantage of the natural benefits of partner and group training.

DEVELOPMENTAL I (ages 12-14)

Sports are to be enjoyed, and it’s more enjoyable when you’re playing than when you are watching.

While all athletes benefit from an improved functional base, many athletes require a more challenging and traditional strength and conditioning program. It is at this transitional time of development that Underground Functional Fitness takes advantage of natural maturity to introduce many of the higher-level activities. Developmental athletes will be instructed on proper traditional strength training techniques designed to meet the general and specific demands of their competitive sports. These techniques, widely used by strength professionals, provide excellent results in young athletes when combined with functional core training and speed, quickness, and agility training.

During this level of training, general athletic goals are set, Individualized programming begins, and a prioritized program is designed to meet the athlete’s goals. Athletes in this group are pre- and post-tested to determined deficiencies in development and to provide feedback to the training staff on the effectiveness of the programming.

TEAM TRAINING

Our team training programs are designed to deliver a challenging workout that is organized, educational, progressive, and customized for entire sport teams. Training sessions can be conducted either at the team’s training facility or at Underground Functional Fitness. Although the sessions will focus primarily on linear speed, quickness, multi-directional skills, and agility development, Underground Functional Fitness coaches can provide traditional strength development training a t the team coach’s request. Team training programs are built to be sport relevant with medicine ball, kettlebell, and free weight strengthening; bodyweight resisted power development; energy system development; and speed ratios that apply directly to specific sports demands.

ADULT RECREATIONAL

No matter what level or age, recreational athletes would like to be better at their respective sports. From the weekend warrior tennis player to the country club golfer conducting a business meeting in the lynx, from the first time triathlete to the National Champion Martial Artist; the recreational athlete strives for improvement and perfection. With an increasing opportunity to compete at every age in life, it seems natural for recreational athletes to turn to modern training to improve their performances.

Adult recreational performance programs at Underground Functional Fitness focus equally on injury prevention and athletic performance. The needs of the adult recreational athlete differ from the needs of the high school-aged athlete and our programs reflect these needs. Adult recreational programs are completely individualized to maximize the improvements of the athlete’s health and performance. Adult recreation clients will be instructed on techniques of each exercise and monitored for performance.

The team training sessions are designed to deliver a challenging workout that is organized, educational, progressive, and customized.
Our coaches are also available to train your coaching staff on proper cues, biomechanics, and safety concerns to make your in-house training programs more safe and efficient with greater efficacy.

At Underground Functional Fitness, our coaches are degreed (in a health-related field) and nationally certified (unlike most gyms). Our coaches understand that while they should push athletes to the limits, effective training also requires positive reinforcement and the use of methods that cater to each athlete’s individual learning style.

Programs are continuously updated with the help of world-renowned sports performance coaches whose backgrounds include coaching numerous elite and professional athletes, collegiate national champions, and All-Americans. Our programs are scientifically designed to improve speed, power, and agility—the three pillars of athleticism.

Our training center features professional equipment from the top vendors in the business. Our climate-controlled training facility offers:

Olympic-style weightlifting equipment, the same equipment Olympic, college, and pro athletes use to build explosive power and core strength.

A 30 ft x 30 ft mat for wrestling/martial arts/self defense and boxing training.

Heavy bags for hand speed and power drills.

Our Communication

Our coaches will periodically schedule meetings with athletes and parents to discuss performance and improvement. This gives parents the opportunity to better understand the program and exactly what their child is experiencing, and to determine the value of the program to their child’s athletic performance. The continued communication with the athletes, parents, and coaches will help to develop a training schedule and regimen which complements WIAA, club, and school demands.
